Helen studied Art at O and A level at Southport High School for Girls back in the late 60s/early 70s. She went on to Gipsy Hill College in Kingston upon Thames to do a B.Ed., after which she taught until leaving the classroom for Advisory work in 1989.

In 1990 she gained an MA in Professional Studies in Education, and more recently was awarded an MA in Photographic Studies from the Norwich School of Art and Design.

Her creative practice has embraced textiles, calligraphy and creating environments, but in recent years Helen has returned to her childhood preoccupation with photography.
